Wesley Schafer, 64, Bismarck, died February 16, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 21, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Wednesday, February 20, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Wes was born in Bismarck, ND, on December 4, 1948, the son of Philip and Irene (Paul) Schafer. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1966. Wes had an associated arts degree from Bismarck State College and an architectural engineer degree from North Dakota State University. Wes was also a bricklayer with his dad for many years. Following graduation he worked at Mid-America Steel in Fargo until he moved to Bismarck. He was part-owner/officer at Metric Construction from 1980 to 2000. Wes worked at Do-Mor Excavation from 2003 until 2009 when he retired. Wes built the first four houses for Habitat for Humanity in Bismarck.
Wes married Joyce Monroe in 1969 and together they raised four children. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Lake Isabel with his family and working on cars with his sons. Wes was always fixing something. One of his greatest joys was his grandkids.
Wes is survived by his wife, Joyce, Bismarck; his children, Michael, Jennifer and Scott Aus, and Joseph and Thomas; his grandchildren, Dan, Catie and Brandon Schafer, and Levi and Hayden Aus; one sister, Janet and Tim Frank; nephews, Ryan and Sal Frank, and Matthew Frank; his mother, Irene Schafer; one sister-in-law, Nancy Doll; and nieces, Shelley and Kelly Herzing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Schafer and his sister, Karen Schafer.
