Kathryn (Katie) A Mathern

Kathryn "Katie" A. Mathern, 89, Bismarck, ND, died August 9, 2015, at St. Aloisius Medical Center Long Term Care in Harvey, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 13, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with Rev. Wayne Sattler officiating. Burial will be held at Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan.Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.Katie was born in Selfridge, ND, on January 19, 1926, the daughter of Matt and Anna (Schank) Manolovitz. She attended school in Solen, ND. On October 25, 1945, Katie married Joe Mathern, at Solen. Following their marriage, the couple farmed south of Solen until 1976, when they moved to Mandan and later to Bismarck.Katie is survived by her eight children: her sons, Daryl (MaryAnn) Mathern, Thermopolis, WY, and Mike (Cindy) Mathern, Solen, ND; her daughters, Betty (Jerry) Erickson, Harvey, ND, Donna Mathern, McKenney, TX, Janell Mathern, North Richland Hills, TX, Loree Brewster, Grapevine, TX, and Jill Vollmer, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her daughter, Holly; her husband, Joe; her granddaughter, Lynn; six brothers, Fred, Adam, Paul, Pete, Matt, and Frank; and her four sisters, Ann, Eva, Lorraine, and Delores.
