Scott B. Girard

Scott Bernard Girard, M.D. passed away in his sleep on July 27, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Wednesday, August 5, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1004 E Highland Acres Rd., Bismarck, with Rev. Donna Dohrmann officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Cremation has taken place.Scott was born in Scranton, ND, on June 7, 1932. He attended schools in Williston and high schools in Grand Forks and Philadelphia. After graduation in 1950, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was trained in becoming a medic and in air evacuation of troops from Korea. Instead, he was assigned to the air police in Germany. Eventually procuring a transfer back into the medical corps and was assigned to Lansberg Air Force base in Germany. He was discharged honorably in March 1955. He is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University, UND Medical School, and Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He was a surgical resident at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He began his practice in St. Alexius Hospital, Mandan Hospital, and Mid-Dakota Clinic, and retired after 27 years. He was a member for over 60 years of the Grand Lodge of Freemasonry, AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots' Association), EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), and Lutheran Church of The Cross. He is survived by his beloved family, his wife, Pam; his sons: Dr. Dhru (Dr. Julia) and their children, Griffin and Ava; and Stu (Colleen) and their children, Cameron, Colin, and Kendall. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Bret Risan (Connie) Missouri, Dana McKinney (Bill) and daughter LaNae, Colorado, Kim Deulen (Gary), son Travis, Idaho, and Scott Risan (Cinthi) Oregon; his grand-nieces, Dr. Lissa Risan, Missouri, Stephanie Davis (Jeff) and daughter Ava, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. B.A. and Helen Girard; his sister, Feral LaRae Risan; and one son, Cameron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lutheran Church of The Cross Building Fund or St. Gabriel's Foundation fund. Without the loving care of his church family and St. Gabriel's rehabilitation we had extra time with him.
