Elizabeth “Bette” Haugland, 90, Bismarck, died December 29, 2015, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 2, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck, with Msgr. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Family will greet guests starting one hour prior to the service. Cremation has taken place. Bette was born in Napoleon, ND, on December 20, 1925, the daughter of Ludwig and Elizabeth Mitzel. After graduating from Napoleon High School, she moved out west. Bette met and married Art Haugland on October 4, 1954. While in Seattle, she worked at the Seattle Police Department before moving back to Bismarck in 1984. Bette enjoyed bingo, reading, and visiting with her nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. Bette is survived by one brother, Mike Mitzel, Indianapolis, IN; her sisters, Marveline (Anton) Becker, Bismarck, and Diana (Larry) Wangler, Madison, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and 10 brothers and sisters.
