Obituary

Ronald Paul Schafer, 47, died April 15, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, ND, surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Ronald was born January 24, 1969, to Adam and Helen Schafer in Bismarck, ND. He was the youngest of nine children. He attended school at Flasher Public School in Flasher, ND. He was united in marriage to Kimberly M. Koch on October 27, 1989, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church in Mandan, ND. To this union was born, Cole (fiancée Stephanie Pelletier), Fargo, ND, and Megan, Grand Forks, ND. Ron has been working in the lumber/building industry for nearly 30 years. Most recently he was the assistant manager at Allied Building Products. Ron’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He was always searching for remodel projects around the house and yard that he could work on. Ron and Kim enjoyed attending live concerts, stock car racing, and going on yearly vacations. He loved watching golf and cheering on his Pittsburgh Steelers on Sundays. Ronald is survived by his wife, Kimberly; his son, Cole (fiancée Stephanie Pelletier), Fargo; his daughter, Megan, Grand Forks; his father, Adam Schafer, Mandan; his sisters, Kathy (Lloyd) Zimmerman, Mott, Sister Jean Louise Schafer, OSF, Rugby/Hankinson, and Linda (Steven) Seehafer, Drake; his brothers, David (Lorraine) Schafer, Eden Prairie, MN, Fr. Dennis Schafer, Flasher, William Schafer, Devils Lake, Randy (Darla) Schafer, Flasher, and Bernie (Colleene) Schafer, Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews. Ronald was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Helen (March 6, 2016); two infant brothers; and a stillborn child.
