Clara Meier, 99, Bismarck, died November 25, 2016, at St. Vincent’s Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 12:30 PM at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck with Rev. Msgr. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:30- 7:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Clara was born on July 8, 1917, on the family farm in Kingston Township, Sargent County, ND, the daughter of John and Mary (Bauch) Kaczynski. She attended school in Geneseo, ND, and graduated from Geneseo High School. She then attended Valley City State University. Clara married Ben Meier on December 30, 1944. Clara taught elementary school in Sargent County, for the Napoleon Public School System, and for the Bismarck Public School System, and retired after 41 years of teaching. While teaching, Clara also earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary. Clara is survived by her son, Bernie (Jackie) Meier of Mandan; her grandchildren, Bernie Lynn (Amanda) Meier of Longmont, CO, Crystal (Jeremie) Moberg of Chandler, AZ, and Jodi Meier of Alexandria, VA; and her great-grandchildren, Emily and Grant Moberg, and Bennett and Vivian Meier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Meier; her parents; her son, Lynn Meier; her sisters, Katie Smykowski, Mary Ruchert, and Dorothy Nathe; and her brother, John Kaczynski.
