Adam Jones

February 29, 2008 — June 15, 2025

Bismarck

Our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and grandson, Adam (17), was called home by his Heavenly Father on June 15, 2025. Adam departed this world after fighting a long and courageous battle against cancer.

Adam Daniel Jones was born on February 29, 2008, to his loving family in Ogden, Utah. His lucky leap year birthday was always greatly celebrated, including on February 28 and March 1 during non-leap years. He enjoyed telling friends and acquaintances that he was only four years old.

Adam moved from Utah to New Mexico when he was one. He had a carefree childhood following his big sisters around and he loved every one of his little brothers that followed him into the family. He loved singing along to musicals, having mid-game snacks with his soccer team, and helping his mom decorate the house for every season and holiday. Adam loved the magic of holidays and fictional stories like Harry Potter. He was beyond excited one birthday to receive his very own letter to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was highly disappointed after packing his suitcase when he was informed that the letter was all in fun and not an actual invitation to attend Hogwarts. He loved magical things and even wore a green leprechaun hat to school for three straight years.

Adam loved reading and often got in trouble at school for reading when he wasn’t supposed to be. He loved getting into shenanigans with his sisters. At age 7 he started a dog pooper scooper business with his sisters to earn money for his one and only trip to Disneyland. It was the best trip ever. Adam loved the magical things that happen at Disneyland.

In the summer of 2017 Adam moved with his family to North Dakota to be closer to his Nana and Papa Riskedahl. He loved North Dakota from the start. He was excited by the cold and long-lasting snow. Adam was known as a funny kid who loved to play and make people laugh. His siblings were his best friends and he created so many memories that will be remembered forever.

Adam expanded his creative side by being in a play in fifth grade, taking art classes throughout junior high and high school, joining band as a percussionist, joining karate and fencing, and eventually joining the tennis team. He had a flair for writing and wanted to be a journalist one day. He was excited this past school year to attend his Junior prom and he ended up attending both Legacy and Century High proms with his best friends. Those two proms were considered his greatest last hurrahs. Adam would have started his senior year this fall.

Adam’s love of fiction carried into his teenage years. The Harry Potter Series, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings movie marathons were a few of his favorites. He loved building the themed Lego sets of his favorite fantasy stories. His Lego collection took over his bedroom during the last few years. Adam also loved watching food videos and tested out many recipes for his 11 pm nightly snack. His favorite being Ramen Noodles. His love of candy was unsurpassable. Gummy worms are still being found in his bedroom. Many gifts of Legos, gummy worms and Ramen were generously given to him to boost his spirits and make his cancer journey a little more bearable and were much appreciated.

After devastating news about his rapidly spreading cancer, Adam still lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed many amazing adventures such as sky diving, hang gliding in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean, cooking lobster on his Make a Wish cruise, and so much more. His courage inspired his family and friends to accomplish their goals now and face the hardships of life with bravery. He reminded us that life is worth living.

Missing him immensely are his parents, Dan and Leesa Jones, and siblings: Emmalynn, Cassidee, Andrew, Brexton, and Jacob. He also leaves behind his maternal grandfather, Ronald Riskedahl, and his paternal grandparents, Lindsay and Christine Jones. He is forever remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was greeted in heaven by his Nana, Linda Riskedahl, Uncle Andrew Riskedahl and Aunt Leesa Smith Jones.

In memory of Adam, build a lego set, eat some ramen, go on an adventure, share a smile and most importantly live every day with strength and courage. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Adam became closer to his Savior through his trials and inspired others with his positivity. His belief in Christ and knowledge of God’s love for him allowed him to share that with all those around him. He walked with confidence and faith out of this mortal life, knowing he is part of an eternal family who will be together forever.

While a piece of our hearts is out of reach for now, we are forever grateful for those who have rallied around us, supported our family, and blessed us with their love. We are grateful for friends, neighbors, and church members who donated time, brought food, and sent Legos and other gifts for Adam and family. Words cannot express our gratitude. Our special thanks to the wonderful staff at Sanford Pediatric Oncology.

Donations can be made in Adam’s honor to childhood cancer supporting organizations such as Brave the Shave, Make a Wish Foundation, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Each of these organizations has greatly blessed his whole family.

Services for Adam will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 10:00 am, with a public viewing from 9:00-9:45 am, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1500 Country West Rd, Bismarck.
