Obituary

Adeline Thiede, 92, of Bismarck, passed away on September 12, 2026.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, September 21, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 on Sunday, September 20, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, with a prayer service starting at 7 p.m.

Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Adeline was born on August 28, 1934, in Sims, North Dakota, and grew up on the Larson Ranch southwest of Almont. She attended her first years of school in a one-room schoolhouse about two miles from where she lived. She walked to school, or her brother Jake drove a team of horses with a small cart—the Larson school bus. By about the fifth grade, she started attending school in Almont.

When she was young, the highlight of her summers was threshing time with the Reeff family. It can be assumed that the mothers didn’t have nearly as much fun as the kids did.

She graduated from Almont High School in 1952 and then went to work at the State Capitol in Bismarck for a couple of years. She moved to Seattle in 1954 and then to Los Angeles, where she met Ted Thiede. They were married in Tokyo, Japan, on December 29, 1960. Their daughter, Laurie, was born there.

Over the years she visited many countries: Japan, Brazil, Germany, Greece, and Indonesia. During the summer of 1976, the whole family spent three months in Indonesia. They all had a wonderful time and visited Tahiti and New Zealand on the way there and Hong Kong on the way back.

In May 1988, after living in California for 30 years, they moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, following Ted’s retirement. Addie bought a gift store and did lots of shopping. In their spare time, they loved to golf and also enjoyed skiing. Addie joined the Sons of Norway singing and dance club, which was a lot of fun.

They never completely adapted to the cold weather, so they spent about three months each winter in Arizona and California. This was especially nice because they were able to see their grandchildren and sons and play some golf.

Adeline is survived by her husband, Ted; three children, Randy (Mercedes) Thiede of Scottsdale, Arizona, Laurie Thiede of Bismarck, and Robert (Lan) Thiede of Huntington Beach, California; four grandchildren: Michelle, Kendrick, Matthew, and Samantha; one great-grandchild, Colin; and sisters, Lois Van Beek of West Fargo and Caroline Schwartz of Watford City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thorvald and Lucille Larson; sister, Joyce Middleton; and brother, Jake Larson.
