Our sweet Amber went to be with Jesus on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 30th, 2025, at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E. Turnpike Ave., Bismarck, ND. Visitation will begin one hour before the service. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 2 PM the same day.
Amber was born at St. Alexius Hospital on December 22, 1980. By the age of 6 months, it was obvious she was not developing at the usual pace and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Amber entered an early intervention program soon thereafter. She remained in the Bismarck School system through the age of 16 when she transferred to the Anne Carsen Center in Jamestown. She finished her school years and graduated in 2021. From there, she moved back to Bismarck and lived briefly at a 4-plex, then moved to a new duplex home in 2021. In 2009, a viral illness took down her lung, and she had to have a permanent tracheostomy. She lived in the duplex until May of 2020, when her lung condition required more care. She moved to the Baptist Health and Rehab in May of 2020, where she resided until her death.
What can we say about Amber except that she loved life, though her disabilities limited her physical activities. Amber loved animals, and they loved her. She was very attached to all our pets through the years, and they were devoted to her. She loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, gardening, and water activities. Amber was an avid traveler, visiting many state parks, Niagara Falls, Cancun, Yellowstone, and four Caribbean cruises. Thanks to our family and friends, Amber was always part of the crowd of kids who included her in play.
Amber was also an advocate for people with disabilities and testified at the State Legislature on behalf of supports and services for people with disabilities. She was always willing to teach new teachers and nursing students about her various needs.
Amber's early journey has ended, and her eternal rest in Jesus has begun. May she rest in peace.
Amber is survived by her parents, James G. and Cynthia Vollmer; many aunts and uncles, cousins, and second cousins.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Clara Vollmer, and Ted and Esther Kirchmeier; and uncles, Donald, Steven, and Michael Vollmer.
There will a link provided for a livestream service right here on Amber's online obituary as we get closer to her Celebration of Life Service.
