Anita Louise (Jundt) Burris (60), beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully into eternal life on October 1, 2025.
The family will accept visitors one hour prior to the service which will be held at The Sanctuary 2630 E Avenue A, Bismarck on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 10:30 AM CT. A light reception will follow after the service and private burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Anita was born in Minot, ND on December 1, 1964, to the delight of her parents (John & Vivian Jundt) and five older brothers; Roger Merk, James, Wayne, Gene, and Ron. Sadly, due to heart failure, her mother passed away when she was only two months old on February 10, 1965.
Anita had a vibrant personality, enjoyed meeting new friends and she was active in theater and music while attending Minot High School. She attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth for a short time and returned to Minot where she met and married James Burris. She quickly stepped into a motherly role to James’ two boys, Brandon and Jason. During their time at Minot, they also welcomed their first-born daughter, Elizabeth. Shortly after, James was stationed in Germany through the Air Force where their second daughter Jennifer was born. When they returned to the US, they lived in North Carolina and Anita gave birth to pre-mature twin boys (John & James). Missing her roots, the family moved back to North Dakota and lived in Wilton for a short time and had their youngest daughter, Vivian. James returned to NC and Anita remained in ND raising 3 of her 5 children.
She worked at JC Penny’s in the drapery department while raising her children and attending BSC part-time. She was so proud to have earned her associate’s degree and was employed by Sanford for almost 20 years as a Lab Technician. Anita also loved to shop at garage sales, and her greatest joy was seeing and spending time with her “grandbabies”! In 2021, Anita was diagnosed with a serious brain tumor and for the past 4 years was cared for in a local long term care facility.
Anita is survived by her children, Elizabeth (NC), Jennifer & John Fergades (WI), John & Sonya Burris, and Vivian & Daniel Magelky. Grandchildren: Madilynn, Noah, Rosalie, Joseph, Josiah (and baby Fergades due in February); Olivia & Hailie Fettig; Isabella, Asher and Sofia Magelky. Her siblings, Jim (Minot) Wayne & Val Jundt (Bis), Gene & Ron (Chicago). Anita was blessed with many extended family and friends; especially Roy Erickson (Bis) who she was especially grateful for! She was pre-deceased by her parents, former husband; stepbrother Roger and infant son James. Memorials in honor of Anita can be sent to the attention of Jennifer Fergades, 4250 County Highway BC, Sparta, WI 54656.
Eastgate Funeral Service will be posting a livestream for Anita's funeral service.
