Arlene Dewald, 91, of Dawson, ND, passed away on June 18, 2025.
A funeral will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday June 24, 2025 at the Dawson Lutheran Church, Dawson, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held at Dawson Cemetery, Dawson.
Lenora Arlene Nerby was born May 9, 1934, north of Robinson, ND in Frettim township to Tom and Olga (Johnson) Nerby. Her first outing was to Bethany Lutheran Church in Robinson where she was baptized and also later confirmed and married. She attended Frettim grade school for 8 years. Her parents moved into Robinson where she graduated high school in 1952.
On June 14, 1952, she married Melvin Dewald. They moved to a farm south of Dawson where she became a farm wife and mother. She spent many hours in the milk barn and hay field and always had a home cooked meal on the table.
Arlene was known for her sewing talents. She made quilts, Halloween costumes, rugs, and crocheted afghans and doilies just to name a few. She was a 4-H leader for the Liberty Livewires in which her children participated. She taught her granddaughters to embroider and her grandchildren how to make potato dumplings. She was also an avid picture taker and scrap booker in which her family will cherish.
Arlene leaves behind her five sons, Roger, James (Mary Pat), Dean (Robin), Kevin (Joyce) and Myron (Sandra); 11 grandchildren, Kristin (Waylon) Stoppleworth, Brandon Dewald, Ali (Jeremy) Herr, Jared Dewald, Darcie Faul, Darla (Adam) Tescher, Laurie (Chad) Momerak, Jaclyn Benfiet (Dustin Rudd), Ryan (Callie) Dewald, Ryan Kapp, Samantha Kapp; 11 great-grandchildren, Theo, Lyla, Emree, Logan, Kinzley, Kaleb, Madison, Hailey, Courtney, Jaxon and Ronin; brother Marvin (Gail) Nerby; and sisters-in-law Elsa, Nerby, Mona Dewald and Diana Lang.
She’s preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin, grandson Benji Dewald, great-granddaughter Mercedes Momerak, her brothers and sisters Bernice Newton, Mabel Viou, infant sister Gladys, Thomas, Luella Maddox, Hazel O’Neil, Chester, Carl, Harold, and Beulah Harrington.
