Arlene Fluto

Arlene Fluto, 88, of Bismarck, ND passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025 surrounded by family at Prairie Pointe Assisted Living. Cremation has taken place, and per Arlene’s wishes, no service will be held. Arlene was born in Devils Lake to Myrtle and Vincent Seward on April 12, 1937. She graduated from Wahpeton High School then furthered her education at what is now known as NDSCS.

Arlene married Vern Fluto in 1956 and they eventually made their home in Bismarck. They welcomed their one and only child in 1978. Arlene often referred to her daughter as her “Miracle Baby”. Her daughter Melanie was her pride and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to support her at her horse events or singing competitions.

Vern and Arlene were lifelong members of McCabe United Methodist Church and her faith was important to her. Arlene worked for the State of North Dakota for most of her life, ending her career at Bismarck State College. Her quick wit and sassy sense of humor brought fun and energy to any environment. She was kind, compassionate, and loved her family fiercely.

Arlene received her favorite title, “nana”, in 2001, and again in 2004. She loved her grandsons with all her heart and was most happy in the stands cheering them on at their sporting events. She was so proud of not only their athleticism, which she humbly admitted came from their father’s side, but also for the leaders and good teammates they were, both on and off the court or field.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Vern, her parents, her brother Eddy, and sister-in-law Ruth.

Left to mourn her passing, while cherishing her presence in their lives, are her daughter Melanie (Tony) Soupir, grandsons Tayden and Rylen, niece and nephews, and special long-time neighbors, Brian and Sue.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Prairie Pointe Assisted Living for the amazing love and care they have shown to Arlene over the past two years. The staff and residents became her second family and we will be forever grateful.
