Visitation will be held on Thurs, Dec 4th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck with a prayer service held at 6 p.m.

Arlie was born Nov. 26, 1939, at his family farm in Goodrich to David and Elizabeth (Leno) Krein. He was the third born in their family of seven. He attended school at Florence Lake through 8th grade. He was the oldest son and then began working on the family farm. He was a hard worker and learned many trades. His first job was working for a local farmer earning $7/day; working 14-hour days when he was 16 years old. His other jobs included construction (Harley Miller Const. and others), Edling Electric, and Meisner Pool and Overhead Doors. He also raised and sold cattle for a short time. He retired in 2001.

As a “bashful” young man he got up the courage to ask Evelyn out in 1963. It was a long courtship and on May 10, 1969, he married Evelyn Stroh at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wing. They resided in Bismarck, having two daughters and a son. Arlie was heartbroken when Evelyn died in 2017. He lived independently and then moved to St. Gabriel’s in 2023 after some health struggles. At St. Gabriel’s he enjoyed teasing staff and residents. He liked to find out everyone’s name and where they were from. He would affectionally come up with nicknames for those he met. Arlie was a caring and loving husband, dad and grandpa. He enjoyed playing cards, setting puzzles, listening to music, watching the Minnesota Twins and NDSU Bison, and visiting with family and friends. His greatest joy was his grandchildren whom he enjoyed attending their school events and sporting activities. He also taught them how to play 500 Rummy. He was a fighter; enduring numerous injuries and health obstacles that would’ve stopped others.

Arlie leaves many wonderful memories to his family; his two daughters Tamara (Jon) Ross, Moorhead, Minn.; Lynette (Mark) Baumiller, Bismarck; his three grandchildren Kristi (Collin) and Katie Baumiller and Jack Ross; his sister Millie (Terry) Miller, brothers David Jr and Jimmy; brothers-in-law John Hilsendeger and Jordell Brose and several nieces and nephews.

Arlie was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Evelyn, an infant son, Lance, his sisters Arlene (Robert) Wilson, Gladys Hilsendeger, and Hilda Brose.
