August "Augie"
Werner
February 23, 1953 – April 9, 2026
August “Augie” Werner, 73, Bismarck passed away with his family by his side on April 9, 2026.
A memorial service will take place Tuesday, April 14, at 10:30 am, with a time of sharing beginning at 10:00 am, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A luncheon will follow. Burial will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Linton, ND at 2:30 pm.
Augie was born on February 23, 1953, in Bismarck and raised on a farm near Kintyre, ND. He attended Linton High School where he was a star wrestler and football player. He is still known as “Masher” to many of his friends, and his special-ordered giant helmet remains legendary. He later attended the North Dakota State School of Science, where he completed the plumbing program.
Augie moved to Bismarck where he worked as a master plumber for more than 40 years. He enjoyed helping family and friends with plumbing, sprinkler systems, or any other projects they could come up with. He was an innovator and loved tinkering with things and finding ways to improve them.
Augie married Maureen “Mo” (McCabe) on August 18, 2000 and they eventually settled in Lincoln in retirement. Augie and Mo enjoyed camping and spending time with family.
Augie was a very supportive father and never missed one of his daughter’s events – usually arriving with an entourage of family and making friends everywhere he went. He could talk to anyone and find some story or common ground to connect on.
Augie enjoyed spending time on the family farm where many family gatherings were held. He built an extra bathroom (fully plumbed, of course) so that more people could gather at once. One of his favorite things to do was to take the children on buggy rides with the horse team.
Augie is survived by his wife, Maureen “Mo” Werner; daughter, Sarah Werner; stepson, Scott McCabe; granddaughters, Kithia Paulson and Journey McCabe; sisters, Rose Werner, Ann Werner and Andrene (Kim) Krein; and brothers, Jeff (Diane) Werner and John Werner; and many brothers in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna Mary (Jacob) Werner; one sister, Janet Werner; and son-in-law, Chad Ray.
