Barbara E. Horning, 81, Bismarck, passed away July 16, 2017, at Sanford Health, Bismarck.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am Friday, July 21, at Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Wayne Sattler officiating.Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, July 20, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 pm.Barbara was born October 25, 1935, in Flasher, ND, the daughter of Adam and Anna (Berger) Schaff. She attended school in Flasher and married Elmer D. Horning on June 25, 1957, in Bismarck.   Barbara worked at J. C. Penney, until it was closed downstown, Dan’s Supermarket, refinished furniture, and later took care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and gardening.Barbara is survived by her husband, Elmer, Bismarck; her daughters, Wanda (Gary) Schmidt, Mandan, Clarissa (Joe) Stecher, Bismarck; grandchildren, Cody Schmidt, Nevada Schmidt, Amber (Stecher) Paulson, Brandon Stecher, and Tyler Stecher; sister, Frances (Terrance) Helbling; sisters-in-law, Caroline Schaff, Delores (Clarence) Morris, and Alvina Schaff; brother-in-law, Val Schlosser; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Doreen, Katherine, Florence, Elizabeth, Theresa and Clementine; and her brothers, Joe, Frank, Bill, and Matt.
