Obituary

Barry L. Roningen, 66, passed away peacefully at Benedictine Living Community in Bismarck on March 27th, 2026, following a short battle with cancer. The family would like to thank the caregivers there, as well as those at HIA Hospice and Sanford Medical Center for the kind and loving care provided in his final days. A private service will be held on April 2nd, 2026, at 10:00 am at Eastgate Funeral Home in Bismarck. The service will be live streamed.

Barry Lynn Roningen was born March 16th, 1960 in Evanston, Wyoming to Morris and Loretta (Will) Roningen. Growing up, Barry loved spending time at the family farm in Nielsville, MN where he shared a special bond with his grandparents, Alfred and Esther Roningen. In his younger years, Barry was very interested in music, often spending many hours a day listening to vinyl records. He attended schools in Rugby, Minot, Grand Forks, and Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1978. Barry loved to work on small engines and enjoyed different types of cars, once owning a pink 1964 Ford Galaxie 500. Barry was often side-by-side with his dad on trips to the farm to help with upkeep, projects, and farming. Barry loved his coffee, drinking many pots a day, and going out for weekly pizza with his mom. He enjoyed going out to local restaurants and celebrating holidays with his family.

Barry spent many years living on his own with the assistance of Enable, Inc. in Bismarck, ND, and for the past few years was under the care of Pride Inc., where he lived in a group home and participated in the day program. His family is thankful for the services offered and for the amazing staff and friends in both programs, who have supported Barry throughout most of his adult life.

Barry is survived by his mother, Loretta; sister Terryl (Lance Gaebe), brothers Brent and Mark (Yelena), nieces Brynn and Annika Gaebe, nephew John Roningen; and step-nieces Yasminka, Elma, and Svetlana Peterson. Barry was preceded in death by his beloved father, Morris, in 2022. There most surely was a beautiful reunion in heaven, with the coffee brewing, when they were reunited once again.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Pride, Inc Day Program in Barry’s name.
