Bernice was born on November 20, 1933, on a farm north of Beulah to parents Edward and Sofia (Achtenberg) Weigum. Bernice attended country school through third grade. The family moved to Beulah where she attended public school, graduating with the class of ’53. Bernice met Allen while a junior in high school. She waited for his return from the U.S. Army, and they were married on June 30, 1953. They lived in Wahpeton, ND, the first two years of their marriage while Allen attended School of Science.
For the next thirty-seven years, they made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bernice was employed as a bookkeeper in the catalog mail order department. Bernice also worked at Woolworths as an office cashier.
Bernice’s best time in her life was being Allen’s wife for 69 years. Bernice truly enjoyed the job as homemaker the best. She liked cooking, trying new recipes, and entertaining. Her hobbies included letter writing, taking pictures of clouds, sunsets, and sunrises. Planning vacations and trips for all over the world was the most enjoyable. Allen and Bernice traveled to 72 countries. They belonged to an Arm Chair Travel Club, showing their slides to many shut ins’ and organizations in the Twin Cities area.
After retirement, Allen & Bernice moved to Arizona to live at Del Webb Community for eight years. In 2000, they moved to Touchmark in Bismarck. Allen passed away in 2022.
