Bernie Huber was born on April 3, 1952 in Bismarck, ND. She was the fifth of eight children born to Ann (Gefre) and John J. Johs of Napoleon. She grew up on her family's farm located south of Napoleon, attended school in Napoleon and graduated from high school in 1970.
In 1970, she met the love of her life, Allen Huber of Linton, ND. They married on October 30, 1971. In 1972, they welcomed their daughter, Lori and in 1977, their son, Ryan. She was an excellent mother and loved her kids so much.
After moving to Bismarck, Bernie’s first job was a dietary aide at St. Alexius Hospital. She attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck, after graduating she went on to work at the Bank of North Dakota until 1977. Later she worked many different receptionist jobs before finding her way back to St. Alexius Hospital in the accounting department until she retired in 2005.
During retirement, Bernie kept very busy. She was very talented and especially enjoyed crafting and sewing. She also enjoyed reading, camping, cooking, bargain shopping, going to garage sales and baking. She made cakes for everyone and everything from her grandkids' birthdays to family’s baby showers. She spent many hours in the kitchen and her sewing room. Bernie loved spending time with her sisters, going for lunch on their birthdays and on weekend trips to Fargo several times a year.
After Allen retired, they spent many winters down south, finally settling in Arizona in 2014. Bernie looked forward to returning to Arizona every year to see her friends, play cards, do crafts, quilting, attend happy hours and get away from the cold.
Bernie loved her grandchildren and spent most of her time with them. From teaching them how to sew and bake, telling them countless stories to spoiling them on shopping trips. She was made to be a grandma.
Bernie will be dearly missed by her husband of 54 years, Allen, Bismarck; her son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Lori Huber, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Saralyn Huber, Fargo, Katie Bartnick and her fiancé, Kyler, Houston, TX, and Madison and Megan Huber, Bismarck; her sisters & brother, Florence (Frank) Wrangler, Bismarck, Helen (Leonard) Berger, Bismarck, Jo Jordan, Winston Salem, NC, Shirlene (Scott) Schafer, Bismarck, Carleen (Dan) Scherr, Bismarck, and Steve (Shirley) Johs, Bismarck; Allen’s sister, Eileen (Larry) Malsom, Linton, and brother, Bob (Marianne) Huber, Sun City, AZ; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her friends in Arizona that she called her Arizona sisters.
