Betty Simon, 90, Bismarck, died on August 11, 2026, at Miller Pointe.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, August 19, at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, 825 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck, ND.

Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Tuesday, August 18, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A Rosary/Vigil service will begin at 6:30.

Burial will be held at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

Betty was born on November 12, 1935, in a log cabin, the daughter of Luther and Hazel (Knight) Bidwell. She was the sixth of 11 children. She was raised in Bismarck and attended Bismarck High School.

Betty’s best friend, Edna, set her up on a blind date where she met the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Simon. They met for the first time on January 17, 1953, and Jerry proposed to her on March 17, 1953. They were married on June 30 of that same year. They lived in Bismarck for nine years before moving to Judson in 1963.

Betty was a dedicated homemaker and mother. When Jerry broke his leg, she went to work outside the home, first as a waitress and later as a laundry aide, where she worked for 20 years.

Betty enjoyed traveling. She and Jerry traveled throughout the continental United States until his passing in 2000. She continued to travel to Melbourne, Florida, to visit Bonnie and her family, and to Summerville, South Carolina, to visit Melissa and her family. She also enjoyed visiting her siblings and their families in Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota.

Betty stayed on the farm until 2007, when a tornado went through and broke all the windows on the west side of the house. She then moved to Bismarck and stayed with Debbie until she found a home.

Betty was a crafty person who enjoyed ceramics, macramé, cross-stitch and many other crafts. She was a loving and caring person who cherished spending time with family and friends. Some of the best times were spent at the farm, sitting around the fire with family and friends, singing and telling stories. She especially loved dancing with the love of her life, Jerry.

Betty and Jerry instilled a strong work ethic in their family, a value that continues to live on. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her creativity and the many special memories she shared with her family and friends.

Betty is survived by five daughters and three sons, David and Margaret Simon, Burlington, WY, Carol and Wayne Hochhalter and Kathy Getz, Bismarck, Joel and Shelly Simon, Mandan, Quentin Simon of Fargo, Susan and Don Lipp, Mandan, Bonnie and Michael Paine, Melbourne, FL, and Melissa and Kevin Rymer, Summerville, SC; and son-in-law John Kraft, Bismarck.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She is also survived by two sisters, Irene Walter, Bismarck, and June PaDelford, MN; three sisters-in-law, Carol Bidwell, MN, Mary Bidwell, WI, Alberta Feser, Glen Ullin; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Edna Smith.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Debbie Kraft; her parents; four brothers, Warren, George, Don and Johnny; four sisters, Laura, Oren, Ilah and Doris; and son-in-law, Ed Getz.
