Betty was born in Pierre, SD to Michael and Martina (Mosset) Waliser and grew up on the family farm south of Selfridge, ND with her 13 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Selfridge High School in 1958 and later moved to Bismarck, ND where she worked in the ND Motor Vehicle Dept. She returned to Selfridge in 1965, where she lived until 1983. While there, she raised two daughters, Laura and Victoria; helped her parents on the farm with gardening and cooking for large family gatherings, and worked as a secretary for the Selfridge Public School District.

After returning to Bismarck, Betty worked at the VFW, Eagles, and Amvets clubs where she tended bar, cooked, and made many friends throughout the years. In the 43 years Betty lived in Bismarck, she found the most enjoyment gardening whether it was a full vegetable garden or her potted flower garden later in life; completing puzzles; spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; hosting holidays; baking and sharing recipes; and treating her family to cream chicken birthday meals.

Betty was a great cook, and she loved making meals for her family. She always made sure to have delicious leftovers to send with guests, made with so much love. Along with the meals, she was sure to make desserts, too. Cakes, cookies, kuchen, and bars were always available. Summer and fall brought homemade jellies, jams, and salsa. She often shared her wisdom about baking and cooking, but nobody could ever make things taste quite like Grandma Betty’s.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura (Joe) Mastel; 6 grandchildren, 4 of which she helped raise as her own, Angelique Waliser (Josh Mills); Elizabeth Waliser; Aaron (Erin McNamara) Waliser; Bobbi (Justin) Schmidt; Ashley Houghton; and Alyssa (Ryan) Stupca; 23 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren: Sean, Lily, Samara, Ava, Trace, Ellie, Koda, Heaven, Ryker, Cylas, Makynleigh, Dahlia, Braxtyn, William, Ashtyn, Alahki, Lukah, Riley, Brycen, Harper, Stella, Hudson, and Emmy; siblings: Robert (Sandy) Waliser, John (Gail) Waliser, Patricia (John) Aldinger, and Diane Waliser; 5 siblings in-law; niece Sapphire Ramey and many other nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria; grandson, Ryan Mastel; grandson in-law, Garrett Houghton; her parents, Michael and Martina Waliser; siblings: Ann, George, Helen, Mike Jr., Mary, Jim, Joe, Tony, Ron, and infant sister, Kathleen.
