Bob was born on July 1, 1946, in Napoleon, ND, the first boy after five girls of 13 siblings. Growing up on the family farm, he developed a strong work ethic. He attended farm school through the fifth grade and then finished middle and high school at the Napoleon Public School. He had a love for athletics, showcasing his skills on the basketball court. After high school, Bob took a detour from his education to serve in the U.S. Military, proudly fulfilling his duty in both the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, he returned to Dakota Business College in Fargo to complete his accounting degree, eventually becoming an instructor there.
On December 28, 1967, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Donna Sperle. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Bobbie Ann and Scott.
Bob had a diverse career, finding his way through the retail world with various companies like Rickman's Printing in Fargo, OMF and Woodmansees, in Bismarck, before eventually becoming an entrepreneur. He started Dakota Office Supply and Equipment, which he ran successfully for approximately 20 years. After retiring from retail, he discovered a passion for ranching, acquiring land-a legacy that continues with his family today. He dedicated two decades of his time to the Disabled American Veterans' Organization, selflessly driving veterans to their medical appointments from Bismarck to Fargo. This work reflected his deep compassion for others and commitment to community service that defined him throughout his life.
A natural creator, Robert had a knack for wood crafting, transforming barnwood into beautiful furniture and thoughtful gifts that his family and friends will cherish forever.
Gardening was another of Robert's passions, with a special appreciation for perennials particularly the day lily, which he nurtured with love and care. His garden was a testament to his patience and dedication, blooming brightly year after year, much like the joy he brought to those around him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna; son, Scott; grandson, Kayden; great-grandson, Jackson; sisters, Arby (Lloyd) Wolff, Kathy (Don) Weaver, Cindy (George) Bates, and Linda (Curt) Michaelsohn; brothers, Tom (Sandy) Schauer, Charles (Terry) Schauer, Bert Schauer, Jerry (Vickie) Schauer, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Ada; daughter, Bobbie Ann; and sisters, Lorraine, Bernie, Marge and Bonnie.
Robert will be remembered for his kind spirit, warm smile and genuine warmth. He had a knack for making everyone around him feel special, leaving a mark on all who knew him. His humor and positivity brightened any room, and he will be greatly missed by all.
