Bonita Maier

Bonita "Bonnie" Marie Maier, 74, died unexpectedly at CHI St. Alexius on May 11, 2025. 

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, May 17, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E Avenue C, Bismarck. To view the service livestream, click this link: Bonita Maier's Funeral Service.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, May 16, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.

Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Ashley, ND. 

She was born on October 21, 1950, in Ashley, ND, to Otto and Anna (Retzer) Maier. 

Bonnie graduated from Ashley High School in 1968 and completed a year at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. She worked for several years at Chaffins Self Service Stores in Aberdeen, SD before moving to Bismarck, ND where she worked collecting data for the Polk City Directory. She started her long 40+ year career working for the NDDOT Driver’s License Division renewing driver’s licenses and road-testing car, truck, motorcycle, and CDL drivers. 

She enjoyed playing sports and made many long-time good friends in volleyball, softball, bowling, and throwing darts. She had a witty personality and had fun being an ‘aunt’ to many of her cousins’ families. 

Bonnie is survived by her sister, Patty Maier, Bismarck, ND; her cousins, Diana (Warren) LaVoi, Detroit Lakes, MN; Linda Retzer, TX; Ken (Marcia) Retzer, Fargo, ND; Linda (Tom) Fiechtl, TX; Glenn Retzer, Ashley, ND; Wayne (Sheri) Retzer, Williston, ND; Margaret Oberlander, Bismarck, ND; Steve (Penny) Retzer, Fergus Falls, MN; Barb Henry, Ashley, ND; Clayton (Corrine) Maier, Bismarck, ND; Bernice Ehresman, Ashley, ND; Annetta Nies, Wahpeton, ND; and Lenora Harrison, Wahpeton, ND; and good friends, Jim and Gail Hrdlicka, Bismarck, ND. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; cousin-in-law, Rick Oberlander; and numerous aunts and uncles.
