Brenda Renee Owen Malard, 47, passed away August 20, 2022 after a six-month courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27 at 2:00 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Avenue, Bismarck. Visitation will be held Friday, August 26 from 5:00-7:00 pm followed by a prayer service and sharing of memories at 7:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Brenda was born September 5, 1974 in Manhattan, Kansas to Jim and Ellen (Johnson) Owen while Jim was stationed at Ft. Riley Army Base. She attended grade school and junior high in Lemmon, South Dakota and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1993. She studied accounting and business at Bismarck State College after high school. She always loved a good book and was often called a “walking dictionary.” In junior high she would often spend hours on the phone helping her classmates with their math homework.
Brenda loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, canoeing, hiking, and fishing with her husband, Ron Malard. They have many happy memories from their trips back-country camping in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area, Boundary Waters, and Yellowstone National Park. She loved to ride with Ron on his motorcycle, and even rode all the way to Florida twice. They both enjoyed riding with and spending time with members of the VIET NAM VETS LEGACY VETS Motorcycle Club.
Brenda was always ready to help anyone in need. Friends and family always knew they could count on her for everything from organizing potlucks and cutting wood to delivering freshly made baked goods and lending a listening ear and a warm hug. She was always thinking of someone and would often show up with a random fun gift or favorite sweet treat just out of the blue.
She loved animals and animals loved her. She often recognized people's pets from years of working at KT Animal Supply. She even carried pet treats in her purse just in case she needed to befriend a dog or cat. Brenda also worked at Dutch Mill Florist and most recently enjoyed a new job at North Dakota Job Service.
Brenda was very proud of her son Zane and was looking forward to holding her grand-baby who is due in a few weeks.
She is preceded in death by her father Jim Owen, paternal grandparents Dwight and Leona Owen, and maternal grandparents Evert and Ethel Johnson.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Ron Malard; son Zane Kraft (September Young); mother Ellen Owen; sister Brooke Steward (Ben); stepsons Joel Kraft (Mariah), David Malard (Danielle) and Todd Smith (Alayna), step-daughters Dora Tschosik (Adam), Sadie Kraft, Amanda Malard (Antonio), Jennifer Malard, Cheryl Schultz, Johanna Draper, father-in-law Elroy Malard; mother-in-law Tina Malard, sister-in-laws Lynette Malard Johnson (Craig), Becky Malard Homes (Steve); nephews Cody and Cole Homes; nieces Theora and Freyja Steward; former spouse Joel Kraft (Lydia Arroyo) and a large extensive loving family and group of friends.
