Carl Edward “Ed” Hasche

August 14th, 1936 – December 31st, 2025

Ed Hasche, 89, passed away on December 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A big guy with a big heart, Ed was known throughout his life as a community‑minded, passionate educator and coach, and above all, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at McCabe United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6th at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 N 6th Street, Bismarck, ND, with an additional visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Ed was born in rural Adams County on August 14, 1936, to Hugh and Louise (Jensen) Hasche and raised in Hettinger, ND, graduating from Hettinger High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed in Germany for most of his enlistment, where he proudly played for the Army baseball team. After his service, he attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology before transferring to Valley City State University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1960. Ed continued his education by completing his Master of Science degree from the University of North Dakota in 1967.

While at Valley City State University, Ed met the love of his life, Faye Jewett. The couple settled in Grafton, ND, where Ed began his teaching and coaching career and welcomed their daughter, Suzanne, and son Chad. In 1970, the family relocated to Bismarck, where their son William was born. Ed continued his calling in Bismarck as a passionate educator and coach, teaching and coaching Football, Track, Wrestling, and Cross Country at Bismarck Junior College. He was later inducted into the Bismarck State College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.

After retiring from teaching and coaching in 1979, Ed remained deeply involved in the community he loved. He became a successful businessman, owning his own retail store, serving on the Bismarck Mandan Apartment Association, and contributing many years to the Bismarck Park Board, including a term as President. He later completed his career as a residential realtor, continuing to build relationships and serve others.

Ed thoroughly enjoyed traveling, playing golf, curling, and spending time at Blue Lake with family and friends. He was an active member of the El Zagel Shrine Dusters, Bismarck Masonic Lodge, and a life member of the Elks.

Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Faye, and their children, Suzanne (Shane) Larson, Chad (Marcella) Hasche, and William (Rosie) Hasche. His grandchildren include Jonathan Mitchell, Riley (Lon) Hasche, Katherine (Ian) Certalic, Alexandra (Jon) Sevlie, Alysha Hasche, Austen Hasche, and Mo Hasche. Great‑grandchildren include Maccabee and Willow Jo Sevlie.

He was preceded in death by his older sisters, Betty Moore and Marlys Coryell.
