Carol Jean (Meier) Baillie, 85 of Bismarck, ND, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 23rd, 2026 after a hard fought battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Carol was born on March 21st, 1941 in Goodrich, ND to Herman and Anna (Hahn) Meier. She graduated from Tuttle High School in 1958. That summer, she enrolled in Valley City State Teacher’s College. She began her teaching career in a rural school near Bowesmont, ND. Carol also taught in Mott, New Salem and Mandan, ND.

Carol graduated in 1967 with her B.S. degree from Valley City State College. She started teaching at Wilton Public School in 1968, retiring in 2011. She was a substitute teacher from 2011 to 2020 equaling 61 total years in education. Carol was in a classroom every year since she was 5 years old.

In 1965, Carol met Daniel Baillie and they wed in February 1966. They had two daughters, Dannielle and Taralynn.

In retirement, Carol enjoyed reading; computer games; crossword puzzles; unfinished crafts and family get-togethers. Her favorite things were teaching, her children and her grandchildren. She always wanted to write a book.

Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years, Daniel; daughters Dannielle (Rodney) Binder and Taralynn (Eric) Harris; grandchildren Dylan and Jordan Binder; step-grandchild Cassandra (Judson) Siewert; step-great grandchildren Easton and Hayden Siewert; brothers Arlin (Thelma) Meier and Randy (Linda) Meier; sister Sheree Wolf; sisters-in-law, Jo Bolte, MaryAnn Meier, Anita Baillie, Karren Meier, Linda Baillie, Una Meier, June (Elmer) Schock, and Lonna Meier; brother-in-law Lowell (Gail Menke) Baillie and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rose and Christ Hahn; Jacob and Katherina Meier; parents, Herman and Anna Meier; brothers DeLane, Gerald, Roger, and Dennis Meier; infant sisters, Arletta and Katherine.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 East Century Avenue. Bismarck, ND 58503

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Monday, August 3rd, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 E Century Ave.

Burial will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 4th at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

In lieu of flowers, Carol requested memorials to the family or a donation in her name to St. Jude’s.
