Carol Jean Strobel, 81, of Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Carol will be remembered for her spirited nature, her deep love for family, and her unwavering pride in her Irish heritage.
Born on August 4, 1944, in Vancouver, Washington, Carol was the daughter of Gordon and Marjorie Brown. She grew up in a close-knit family alongside her sisters, Shirley and Sharon, and her brother, Rodney. From a young age, Carol showed a bold and compassionate spirit—she was never afraid to speak her mind, but always with love, honesty, and humor. In June 1978, Carol married the love of her life, Marvin Strobel. Together, they built a strong, affectionate partnership rooted in mutual respect and laughter until his passing in 2019. Their marriage was one of enduring devotion, and she will be laid to rest beside Marvin at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, a fitting tribute to their lasting bond. Carol’s greatest joy came from her family and the home she created for them.
She is survived by her children, Bridget (Mike) Roll and Kelly (Char) Mathisen; her stepchildren, Lorelei Sullivan, Jon Strobel, and Denielle Connelly; her sister, Shirley (Glen) Larson; her brother, Rodney (Colleen) Brown; her brother-in-law, Robert Hokstad; and her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin; her sister, Sharon Hokstad; and her parents, Gordon and Marjorie Brown.
An animal lover at heart, Carol found peace and purpose in caring for her pets, who were always by her side. She lived with warmth and conviction—cherished traits that will be forever remembered by those fortunate enough to know her.
A service to honor Carol’s life will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery on Friday, October 17th, at 2 pm, where she will be laid to rest beside Marvin.
