Caroline was born on June 23, 1926, to Nick and Celestina (Leingang) Hatzenbuhler. She was raised on a farm northeast of Solen, North Dakota, and graduated from Solen High School.
In 1944, Caroline married Alphonse Kuntz. They lived near Solen before moving to Hazelton, where they resided for a few years. In 1955, they settled in Bismarck, where they raised their five children and made their home.
Caroline began her working career as a nurse’s aide at St. Alexius Hospital before joining the staff of the Bismarck Diocese, where she worked for many years, cooking, cleaning and dedicating her life to serving others. Devoted to her work, she continued working into her 80s. After moving into their home on Riverview Avenue, Caroline often walked to Cathedral of the Holy Spirit to work, a testament to her dedication and strong work ethic.
A devout Catholic, Caroline was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, for many years, until moving in town where she joined Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck.
In her earlier years, Caroline enjoyed sewing and put her talents to work as a seamstress. She made drapes for many people, sharing her skills and craftsmanship with others.
Caroline will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her dedication to her family, her deep faith, and the many years she devoted to serving others through her work.
She has survived by her five children, Dale (Peggy) Kuntz, Arnold “AJ” (Doris) Kuntz, Larry Kuntz, Faye (Mike) Broeckel and Debra Kuntz; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Bernice Kuntz, Helen Kuntz and Carol Kuntz; several nieces and nephews; including special nieces Donna (Al) Belinsky, Shirley (Earl) Heinert and Diane George, who provided loving assistance and care to Caroline over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse; grandson, Keith K. Kuntz; parents, Nick and Celestina; brothers, Jake (Frances) Hatzenbuhler, Johnny (Florence) Hatzenbuhler and Tony (Louise) Hatzenbuhler and sisters, Betty (Tony) Kautzman, Rose (Tony) Geiss, Irene (Lawrence) Glasser, Magdalene (Bob) Balkowitsch and an infant sister.
