Charles A Butz Sr, 94 of Bismarck passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 19, 2025.
Charles was born February 16, 1931 in Bismarck to parents, Andrew and Dixie Butz.
He spent his entire life as a painter and proudly created “Charlie & Sons” when his eldest son Charles Jr. returned from Montana in 1967.
Charles and Edna were parents to seven children and raised them in and around various North Dakota locations. Lastly, they resided in McKenzie, ND for over 30 years. Edna and Charlie absolutely loved their large property there, truly making it a family home with huge garden areas and “showcase” flowers throughout the yard. Charlie just loved filling his bird feeders every day. He had a life-long love for fishing, and he really enjoyed playing cards; and he certainly would not miss an opportunity to get up & dance. He will be remembered as “The Candy Man” at both Crescent West and Sunset nursing homes. Our family wants to say a special thank you for the wonderful staff at Sunset, and to all the medical staff at St. Alexius Hospital.
He is survived by his children, Charles Jr. and Marie Butz, Linda and Chuck Paul, Karen Holmes, Ron and JoAnne Butz, Lori and Butch Koth, Ken Butz; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Charlotte living in Reno.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Edna; son, Daniel Duane; grandchildren, Shawn and Chantel Paul and Miranda Butz; brothers, Dennis, Virgil, Joe, Max and Dempsey; sisters, Lavonne and Dorothy.
