Chuck was born June 28, 1952, in Bismarck, ND to William and Ellen Janko.  Chuck grew up on the family farm south of Steele, ND. Chuck attended school in Steele, graduating from Steele High School in 1970. Following graduation, he attended Bismarck State College earning a vocational degree that would lead to 40 plus years working in the automotive parts business at Hedahls, Eide Ford, Carquest, Factory Motor Parts and retired from Harlows Bus Sales in 2015. Charles also worked maintenance for a short period of time at Edgewood and Expressway Inn and spent the past two summers working part time for Pebble Creek Golf Course.

On June 1, 1973, Chuck married his wife Michelle Vedvick at First Presbyterian Church in Bismarck, ND, with whom he enjoyed 48 years of marriage and raised their son, Cody and daughter, Christy in the home that he and Michelle built in Menoken, ND. In October of 1998 son-in-law, Christopher Smith joined the family, and later two granddaughters, Anya and Liberty, who called him G-Pa.

Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on his vehicles, mowers, and tending his garden and large yard.  He also enjoyed mall walking, volunteer work, having breakfast at Denny’s, many fun lunches at A&B Pizza, and visiting with family and friends. Twice a year he looked forward to the trips he would take with his wife to the Black Hills and Deadwood SD, where he would say “smell that pine, Micky.”

He is survived by his wife Michelle; son, Cody (Jodi Hart); daughter, Christy (Christopher) Smith; granddaughters, Anya Smith and Liberty (Caleb Monger) Smith; brothers and sisters, Marlene Janko, Jeanette (Lyle) Petersen, Bill (Yvonne), Jesse (Phyllis); brothers-in-law, Robert (Virginia) Vedvick, and Charles (Dorothy) Vedvick; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, several cousins, and his father-in-law, and mother-in-law.

We would like to thank the Sanford Hospital Employees who took such good care of Chuck while he was in their care, their kindness and caring was appreciated so very much.

Through it all Chuck maintained a positive and wonderful attitude, and always told is wife that it’s all good no matter the outcome of his illness.
