Christine was born on the family farm near Napoleon, ND July 19, 1923, the daughter of Vincent and Mary (Vetter) Schmidt.  She grew up in the area and received her education.  At the age of 14 she had a very strong desire to become a woman religious, so in 1941 she entered the Order of St. Francis, at Hankinson, ND.  She served as a sister at St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN, as a cook and baker and also at the Benedictine Abbey in Atkinson, KS until 1951.  For 19 years she used her talents in hospitals, nursing homes and hot lunch programs.  In 1970 God called her to a new vocation.  She moved to California as a lay person and began cooking in schools and at the Precious Blood High School, preparing three meals a day for 13 priests.  In 1974 she was called to the married life, when her heart went out to a widowed man, Tim Flood.  Tim passed away after 24 years of marriage and Christine chose to retire in her home state of North Dakota.

In her retirement, Christine enjoyed attending daily Mass, often serving as a rosary leader, lecturer, and sacristan.  She volunteered her service to assist several active and retired priests.  Christine also supported various seminarians with her prayers and financial support.

Christine is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters and brother: Theresa Werre, Valentine Schmidt, Frances Lucia, Julia Eggen, Mary McMurry, and Clara Scherr.  Christine was the last surviving first cousin on both the Schmidt and Vetter sides of her family.
