Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm, Sunday, August 17, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.

Burial will be held at Mandan Union immediately following the funeral service.

Cora was born on December 28, 1950 in Kansas to Clarence and Dorothy (Shelby) Herman. She graduated from Frederic High School in Wisconsin. After graduation, she attended Joseph’s School of Hair, beginning her journey into a variety of careers.

Cora first worked as a beautician before later joining Heart View, where she worked until its closing. She then continued her career at Dakota Foundation, remaining there until her retirement.

Cora met the love of her life, Ervin Schantz, and the two were married on July 24, 1971. Together they welcomed two children: Travis in 1977 and Yve in 1978.

She had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, and over the years she and Ervin cared for many beloved pets. Cora also had a special fondness for flowers. In the kitchen, she was an exceptional cook, baker, and canner—famous for her pickles and peaches. Known for her generosity, Cora never made just one of anything; there was always an extra—whether it was four apple pies, a ham to go along with the turkey, or a little something special to share with family and friends.

Cora is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ervin; children, Travis, and Yve (Shawn) Olien; uncle, Ervin (Darla) Herman of MN; aunt, Donna Herman of ND; very special friends, Sonia Ozbun and Judy Schaff; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dale; sisters, Lora; Lora’s infant twin sister, Lori Jean, and Candyce; and uncles, Dale Fraser and Jerry Fraser.
