A bright light has dimmed…Cornelius “Corn” Grant, peacefully passed away in his home at the age of 86, surrounded by his family on Friday, November 28th.

Corn was born in Belcourt, North Dakota which is located on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation. On August 4, 1960, he married Rose Jollie, at St Ann’s Church in their shared hometown.

He began his work career thereafter in jobs that promoted education and economic development, with special emphasis on working on programs to help Native American people.

As his family grew, he accepted positions that required moves to various cities. In 1972, now with five children, he settled down in Bismarck. Once there he assumed the position of Economic Development Administrator for the State of North Dakota. He held this job for over 25 years and was able to acquire the financing for projects that created several thousand jobs throughout the state, including projects within the five Indian Reservations.

Throughout his lifetime he valued time spent with family and friends and once he retired he was able to enjoy gardening, completing small remodeling projects, and attending sporting events such as basketball, horseracing and football. Corn will be remembered for his strong work ethic, devout faith, his humorous nature and hospitable ways. He was well known and respected for the leadership and guidance that he provided to so many people.

He is survived by his wife, Rose, Bismarck; 4 living children: Cari (Mario) Usera, Ed (Cheryl), Jolli (Pete) Marcellais, Jeff (Deb) and daughter-in-law Jenny Grant. Plus 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 siblings; Lana (Mick) DeCoteau and Toni (Kevin) Nelson.

He is preceded in death by a son, Jamie, and his mother Alma (Grant) Peterson, stepfather Jack Peterson, his grandparents Mary Jane and Louis Grant and siblings, Donna Mae, Mary Jane, Carlene, Bill, and Lisa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 5, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1115 Louis Riel Dr, Belcourt, ND.

Visitation will be held 8:00 am on Friday, December 5, at St. Ann's Catholic Church. A Rosary will be held at 9:00 am with a Eulogy to follow.

Burial will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery.
