When the job at the Dam was finished in the fall of 1956, he went to work for the Zap Grain Elevator in the spring of 1957.

On June 21, 1957 he married his sweetheart, Evangeline “Vangie” Horning in Zap. Vangie's uncles from Burke, Idaho talked him into working in the underground lead and zinc mine in Burke and they lived in Wallace, Idaho. Dale used to be active with the Volunteer Fire Department, Ambulance and First Aid Training, etc. for many years. He was also active on Church Council and other church activities, PTA, Chamber of Commerce, and involved in promoting Agriculture, Roads, and Bridges, which took Dale and Vangie to meetings in Bismarck, ND, Helena, Mt., and Washington, DC.
