Obituary

Dave Miller, 60, Bismarck, passed away on July 6, 2026. He is now with his Lord and Savior.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, July 16, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1615 N 18th St, Bismarck, ND.

Visitation will be from 5-7PM on Wednesday, July 15, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 E Century Ave, Bismarck.

Dave was born on October 22, 1965, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Herbert and Arlene (Johnson) Miller. He was raised in Bismarck where he attended Will-Moore Elementary School, Hughes Junior High, and Bismarck High School, and later earned his GED through South Central High School.

Dave’s childhood was filled with many weekends at their cabin on Lake Sakakawea where he could be found fishing with his brothers.

Dave learned the lifelong value of hard work from an early age. Throughout his childhood, Dave helped his parents with janitorial duties at the Russell and Randal Building, along with his brothers and sisters. Dave taught his daughters his value of hard work.

His sisters loved to tell how mischievous Dave was. He and his brothers were little terrors on their bikes when he was young. He even commandeered a golf cart with his cousin as his accomplice and ran into another cousin’s corvette.

After leaving high school, Dave moved to Wyoming where he worked as a laborer with two of his brothers for a short time. After moving back to Bismarck, he worked for multiple masonry companies and also began building his business, Dave Miller Masonry, on the side. Later, his business merged with Mid-Dakota Masonry until it closed. He went on to work for other masonry companies over the years, and most recently with Rohrich Masonry and Mortenson Masonry until his death.

Dave frequently patronized Pony Express where he met the love of his life, Ann Kramer, in 1996. What started as a friendship grew into more. After he proposed to her, he was baptized into Christ on March 7, 1998, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. The Holy Spirit continued to work in his heart, and with the support of his pastors and family members, his faith continued to grow. He applied that faith to mentoring youth in the church and helped instill that faith in his daughters. Dave’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life.

Dave and Ann were to be married October 11, 1997, but they changed the date and were married on August 8, 1998, in Bismarck. Two years later, they welcomed their oldest daughter, Katie, and two years after that, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Emmy. His greatest role was being a husband and father. Nothing meant more to him, and he loved his wife and daughters deeply.

Dave loved fishing, camping, and hunting, but reeling in Ann was his greatest catch of all.

Dave had an infectious sense of humor. He knew how to make people laugh. He was a devoted Cubs and Vikings fan and took immense joy in testing the patience of his friends, and especially pastors, who liked rival teams, leaving a trail of good-natured grumbling in his wake.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; daughters, Katie (Leander, Texas) and Emmy (Bismarck); sisters, Renee Miller and Brenda Jans; brothers, Dan, Dale, and Terry Miller all of Bismarck; mother-in-law, Pat Kramer (Bismarck); sisters- and brothers-in-law, Beth Kocis and Scott and Nancy Overson all of Bismarck; nieces and nephews, Kris (Emmett) Tischmak (Plymouth, MN), Kaden and Aubrie Overson, Braden, Hunter, and Bailey Kocis all of Bismarck; aunt, Frances Miller (Bismarck); great-nieces, Hope and Hayley Tischmak (Plymouth, MN); many cousins; and his very special “puppy” Lily; as well as many friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Arlene Miller; grandparents, Maggie and Dan Miller, and Edwin and Ellen Johnson; many aunts and uncles; and his other “puppies,” Harley, Levi, Apollo, and Thai.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of our family and friends for the overwhelming love, prayers, kindness, and support shown to us during this difficult time. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Mortenson Masonry, Mortenson Construction, Rohrich Masonry, the field medic, first responders, medical professionals, and all of Dave’s coworkers for their selfless and tireless efforts to provide medical aid to Dave.

Though our hearts ache for his presence, we find peace and comfort knowing that Dave is with his Lord and Savior in paradise.
