From a young age, David was always building things, conducting science experiments, constructing intricate models, figuring out how things worked and constantly reading / learning. After serving his country in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, he completed his engineering degree and had a successful career as a systems design engineer, working in Germany and the United States.  David was a patriot and passionate about teaching U.S. Constitutional ideals and freedoms.

Some of David’s fondest memories are on “The Farm,” turning soil, sowing seed and harvesting crops with his Grandpa Willard Truax, Uncle Don and Truax cousins. He valued his North Dakota roots and prized his land In Pleasant Hill Township. David enjoyed writing children's stories, containing moral lessons, for his young grandsons.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Calvin Drennen and Delores Ione Truax Drennen; and brother, Dale Sherwood Drennen.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Heide; sons, Gabriel and Shawn; granddaughter, McKayla; grandsons, Malachi, Josiah, Daniel and Micah; sister, Leah Thompson; and brothers, Dana, Timothy and Gilbert.

David was known as a deeply religious man, and he often reminded people that life is short and encouraged others to use time wisely in the Lord’s service.

Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
