Dawn
Bland
September 24, 1960 – May 26, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dawn Joyce Bland (Geiss), who passed away on Tuesday, May 26, at the age of 65.
Dawn was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose warmth and presence touched so many. Above all else, she loved her children, Hayley and Brandon, and her beloved granddaughter, Estelle, who brought her endless joy.
Dawn grew up in Mandan, North Dakota. She lived in Denver and Minneapolis before making her way back to Bismarck. She spent many years working as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, a career that allowed her to travel the world. She enjoyed the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and carried with her a deep curiosity and appreciation for the world.
She found happiness in life’s simple and beautiful moments, being outdoors in the sunshine, going for long walks, tending to her always impressive flowers and garden, and cooking delicious meals with a strong emphasis on “eating for the season.” She especially looked forward to summertime and trips to the plant nursery and farmers market.
Those who knew Dawn will remember her for her strength, her love for family, her adventurous spirit, and the care she showed to others. Though her family’s hearts are heavy with loss, they will hold close the memories of her laughter, her love, and the many beautiful moments shared together. Though there were struggles in her later years, those who loved Dawn will remember the light within her, a spirit that could never be overshadowed and the warmth she brought to the people around her.
She is survived by her children, Hayley and Brandon; her granddaughter, Estelle; her brother, Allen; and her partner, Gary. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley; her father, Bob; and her granddaughter, Veyda.
In honoring her memory, her family encourages others to spend time outdoors, enjoy the sunshine, plant something beautiful, share a good meal, and hold close the people they love.
To know Dawn was to know someone who could find beauty in the simplest things, a walk in the sunshine, flowers in bloom, and a meal from the garden.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
