Debra D. Walter

December 15, 1963 — March 13, 2025

Debra “Debbie” Walter, 61 of Menoken, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 5 to 7 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, with a funeral service starting at 7:00 PM.

Debra was born on December 15, 1963 in Plentywood, Montana to Jerry and Donna (Pierce) Roberts. The family moved to quite a few places for her dad‘s job, but she attended most of her schooling in Belfield. At age 16, she lived with her aunt and attended Hazelton high school before going back to Dickinson. In her younger years, she was one of the family pranksters and always loved a good joke. She loved to be active riding her bicycle and running, which lead her to joining the track team in Belfield. She also loved the sun and sun tanning, so a job at the Belfield pool as a lifeguard was a perfect fit for her.

After her schooling, she started working at the nursing home in Dickinson as a nursing assistant and went on to get certified as a CNA. In 1985 she met Bryant Walter through mutual friends, although one friend was trying to derail a possible relationship between the two by telling her Bryant was getting married when he wasn’t. It was meant to be and on August 24, 1985 they were married. Together they raised three children Jaelyn, Jessica, and Brandon, along with many, many amazing animals that the kids (Jaelyn mostly) would randomly bring home. They lived in Dickinson and Killdeer before moving to Bismarck in 1992. Debbie started working at Missouri slope as a CNA until the late 1990s when she was forced to retire due to ill health.

Her hobbies were few but fulfilling and most centered around spending time with family, especially her adored grandchildren, Hayden, Liam and Breyer. Their house was the designated house for get-togethers, whether it was for holidays or grilling for guests. She enjoyed playing games with family, doing puzzles and playing solitaire. Debbie always seemed to have a home project in the works with Bryant. They made a good team, she was an exceptional homemaker, keeping their home spotless and Bryant did the cooking. She loved flowers of all kinds and enjoyed gardening. Most of all, Debra nurtured a close family bond, which they all know now has a link missing of a loving and patient wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend,

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bryant; daughter, Jaelyn (Cody) Chathams, Bismarck and their children Hayden, Liam and Breyer; daughter Jessica (Tom) Carter, Lake Elmo, MN and their cats, Echo, Sherman and Georgie; son Brandon Walter and his cat Zendo, St. Paul, MN; sister, Brenda (Brian) Olson, Springfield, IL; sister-in-law, Kelly Roberts Goetz, Bismarck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith (Kim) Walter, Phoenix, AZ, Rodney (Rainbow) Walter, SD, Cheryl Walter, Bismarck, John Walter, Mandan, Brenda Walter, Bismarck, Darrell Walter Mandan, Ann (Chuck) Hendrickson, New Salem, Jerry (Joy) Walter, AZ and Rick (Julie) Walter, Bismarck; aunts, Patsy Renz, Tarpon Springs, FL and Betty Pierce, Puyallup, WA; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jim Roberts; sister, Dawn Roberts and her mother and father-in-law, Richard and Evelyn Walter.
