Delores Nagel

December 4, 1935 — November 9, 2023

Delores Nagel, Bismarck (formerly of Linton), passed away November 9, 2023 at the age 87.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, Nov. 17, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Linton.

Family will greet guests from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, Nov. 16, at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, 806 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 PM.

Delores was born December 4, 1935 to John and Catherine Noel on the family farm in Linton.  She married Edwin M. Nagel on November 5, 1956 and together they raised nine children on the Nagel family farm west of Linton, overlooking the Missouri River. Gary, Steven (Carol), Mary, Gregory (Kathy), Dion, Douglas (Lori), Edwin Jr, Valerie (Jesse) Scalzo, and Adele Kraft were blessed to be Delores’ children.  In 2004, Delores and Edwin moved to Linton and in 2019 they moved to Bismarck.

Of the many activities on the farm, Delores’ talents included many skills:  Homemaker, seamstress, cook, baker, veterinarian, farm hand, field worker and her biggest role of mother.  None of these roles were by a formal education, but out of the necessity to get things done on the farm.  Delores graduated from 8th grade and always wanting to go to high school and in 1978 she received her GED from Linton High School.

Delores was active on many community Boards and organizations:  Catholic Education (CCD), Catholic Daughters Court St. Claire, Emmons Central School Board, 4-H Leader, Social Services Board of Emmons County, and Companion for the Precious Blood Society.  Delores was also the community organizer for 3 years for the Affordable Rural Coalition for Health Grant (ARCH) from University of North Dakota serving the communities of Linton, Wishek, Ashley and Napoleon.

Delores always wanted to become a nurse and upon completion of the CNA certificate program, worked at the Linton Hospital from 1990 to 2013 in various roles, including CNA, Hospice, Volunteer Coordinator, and Home Health.

Delores assisted her husband in his care until his death in 2020.  She was always there for her family with her loving spirit and caregiving role.   A devotion to the rosary and Delores’ Catholic faith were key to who she was.   Delores had an incredible memory for dates and many people were on the receiving end of her yearly birthday wish in song.

Amongst the many accomplishments, Delores’ greatest were her nine children, 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  She was very active in their lives and enjoyed many visits with them in her home.  The marble board was always ready to challenge Mom and Grandma.

Delores is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother Mathew (Marcia) Noel, Belvedere, IL.   Many nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews all of whom she loved with all her heart.

Preceding Delores in death are her parents, her husband, daughter-in-law, Nattie Nagel, grandson, Paul Nagel, brothers Albert and John Noel, sisters Isabelle Noel and Herrietta Nagel.
