Delwin “Del” Freda was born in Minot, ND, on December 18, 1948, on a stormy, cold winter day to parents Floyd and Delores (Solheim) Freda. He grew up in rural Minot, helping his dad on the family farm by milking cows and working the fields. Delwin attended Burt and Harrison rural schools and graduated from Minot High School in 1967, where he was active in FFA, DECA, 4H, and Farmer’s Union.

After graduation, Delwin attended Wahpeton State School of Science, studying autobody repair. In 1969, he was drafted into the Army, completed basic training at Ft. Ord, California, then served at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, followed by Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland, before being assigned to the 55th Aviation Command in Korea, where he proudly worked as an Aircraft Mechanic Crew Chief. Delwin was honorably discharged in December 1971.

Upon returning to Minot, Delwin enjoyed cruising in his 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE, attracting the attention of the love of his life. On October 20, 1972, he married his wife of 53 years, Angie Volk. Delwin and Angie lived for a short time in Sheboygan, WI, where he worked for Gottsacker Chevrolet Auto as an autobody repairman. They returned to Minot, making their home in rural Minot and raising their daughters. Delwin continued to support his father and neighbors with the farm work, while managing Our Place and Pizza Plus for a period. He later worked as a salesman at Western Auto Parts and then OK Automotive. In 1993, Delwin and Angie relocated to Bismarck, ND, where he worked in outside sales for Inland Auto Parts until his retirement in December 2013.

After retirement, Delwin kept busy working part-time for Enterprise, transporting cars across the state. He cherished time with his family, who played a central role in his life. Delwin enjoyed the outdoors and took pride in maintaining his lawn. In the summer, he played golf, and in the winter, he bowled in many leagues. He also enjoyed watching golf and football. Later in life, Delwin and Angie made wonderful memories traveling together, including trips to Hawaii and other special places.

Delwin is survived by his wife, Angie (Volk) Freda; daughters, Yvette (Leon) Rudnick and Denice Freda (Morrell); granddaughters, Faith Freda (Savannah) Carnes, Allison Christine Rudnick, and Deserey Rose Morrell; sister, Linda Freda Meisner Whismen; nephews, Michael (Linda) Meisner and Stefen Meisner; and many nieces and nephews on the Volk side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Delores Freda; his grandson, Dylan Antone Morrell; and brother-in-law, Jim Whismen.

Delwin will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, and the joy he brought to those around him.
