Obituary

Dennis N. Foss, 66, Bismarck, died October 31, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, November 8, at Church of St. Mary, 806 E. Broadway Ave., Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 7, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Dennis was born July 1, 1952, in Hazen, ND, the son of Lucas and Marville Foss. He was raised on the family farm south of Hazen, ND, and graduated from Hazen High School in 1970. On June 27, 1974, he married the love of his life, Loretta L. Dietrich at St. Hildegard’s Catholic Church in Menoken, ND. Together they had two wonderful sons, Brian and Mike. Dennis and Loretta were blessed with three grandsons, Braiden, Dane, and Jaik; and, three step-grandchildren, Hunter, Gauge, and Celia. Dennis worked on the family farm until 1976, when he joined the International Labors Union. Working at the Milton R. Young Power Station by Center and the Coal Creek Power Station by Underwood, ND. In 1977, the family moved to Kansas and Dennis started working at the Jeffery Energy Center and the R. Young Power Station by Underwood. In 1980, they moved to Hazen and Dennis went to work for the Mercer County Soil Conservation Service. In 1981, the family moved back to Bismarck and he spent six months working in Meron, IN. 1982 took Dennis to the Great Plains Gasification Plant for two years. In 1987, he went back to school and pursued a career in chemistry with a Bachelor of Science degree from Bismarck State College. After college he worked at Minnesota Valley Testing Labs until he started his own business in 2001. Dennis is survived by his wife, Loretta; his two sons, Brian (Pam), and Mike (Abigail); grandsons, Braiden, Dane, and Jaik; three step-grandchildren, Hunter, Gauge, and Celia; his brothers, Clyde and Curt; sister, Karen; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucas and Marville Foss; brothers, Allen and Roger; in-laws, Helen and Matt Dietrich; and sister-in-law, Arlene Hedstrom.
