Dennis Fried was born on May 25, 1949, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to William and Tillie Fried of Driscoll, ND. He attended school in Driscoll and graduated from Driscoll High School in 1969.

In 1970, Dennis moved to Bismarck for work, where he later married the love of his life, Judy Kershaw, on June 29, 1971. Together, they built a home and raised their family in the Bismarck area.

Dennis began his career in 1970 as an apprentice with HA Thompson & Sons and went on to become a licensed Journeyman. He also worked as a pipefitter on power plants throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1986, he started his own business, Bismarck Prop Works, earning his NMPA certification for propeller repairs. After many years of dedicated work, and as he approached retirement, Dennis proudly sold the business to his son, Jason, in 2013. Following Jason’s passing, the business was closed in 2021.

Dennis loved dancing, camping, fishing, traveling, playing pool and cards with family and friends. He was known for his friendliness, fun-loving personality, and quick sense of humor. He could strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone. Dennis was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He was always the loudest cheerleader at sporting events, orchestra and choir performances, graduations, and countless other activities, rarely missing an opportunity to be there supporting them. Above all else, he loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them—whether sharing a cup of coffee, eating ice cream, playing games, traveling, or enjoying a meal together. Dennis was always looking forward to the next adventure.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Beth (Trey) Hubley; his daughter-in-law, Lynn; his grandchildren, Whitney (Ryan), Kylee (Walter), Megan, Grant, Josie (Brandon), Cody, Callie, and Emma; his great-grandchildren, Huntley, Oaklee, Jasper, and Paisley; his brothers, Gary and Arnie; his sisters, Lorraine Eckman and Angie (Duane) Hoovestol; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jason; his parents, William and Tillie Fried; his brothers, Roy, Willard, Herb, Bill, and Art; brother-in-law’s, Richard Kershaw and Rueben Eckman; and his in-laws, Dalbert and Aune Kershaw.

Dennis always said, “Life is good.”
