Dennis Metzger

Dennis Metzger, age 81, of Bismarck, passed away surrounded by his family on July 1, 2024.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 AM, Tuesday July 9, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck.

A private family burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Dennis was born February 23, 1943, to Jacob Metzger and Leona (Kitzan) Metzger.

Dennis graduated from Hebron High School in 1961. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Army. Dennis was active from 1961-1964 where he was stationed in Germany.

Dennis went to work for the railroad from 1964 to 1966. He then switched career paths and became a police officer in 1966. While working for the Mandan Police Department he noticed a beautiful blonde lady drive by. He commented on how good looking she was, and his co-worker said, “That’s my sister!”. Him and Linda married on April 8, 1967. Dennis continued to work for the Mandan Police Department until 1976, where he then went back to work for BNSF until he retired in 2001.

Dennis absolutely loved spending time with his family. He would beam from ear to ear when he could hang out with all of his family. He looked forward to playing darts and watch Troy play, having a “cold one”, and gambling a little.

Dennis is survived by his son, Troy (Paula); daughter, Dawn Grosz; grandchildren, Lacey, Brandon, Tyler, Cameron, and Alexandria; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Dominik, and Arianna; and sister, Ester.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Linda; parents; brothers, Lloyd, Richard, Les, and Calvin.
