DoLores Mae (Reubish) Johnson, 98, passed away on March 25, 2026, at Baptist Health and Rehab, Bismarck, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30AM, Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, 801 1st St SE, Mandan.
Visitation will be from 5:30-6:30PM, Monday, March 30 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil will begin at 6:30PM.
Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
DoLores was born, on March 9, 1928, at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge, MN, to Charles and Ella (Seurer) Reubish of Fairmount, ND. She attended Summit #1 school through grade 3, then St. John’s Catholic School, Wahpeton, ND through grade 8. DoLores graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1946. She then continued her education, entering a 3-year nursing program in September, 1946 at St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge, MN. As part of her nursing education, she trained at the St. Cloud, Minesota VA Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. She graduated with a Registered Nurse degree on September 1, 1949. She then became employed at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge. She married Burton Johnson on October 25, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wahpeton. Burton and DoLores moved to Burton’s family farm north of Steele, ND in May, 1951. DoLores continued in her nursing profession assisting the local Dr. Anthony Zukowsky, assisting with the Kidder County wide immunization clinics while also working occasional weekends at the Golden Manor Nursing Home in Steele. In addition to her employment, she was a busy farm wife, raising five children and nephew, David Deutscher. In 1966, Burton and DoLores purchased JB Hardware after Burton’s sister’s death. DoLores managed JB Hardware and later Johnson Steele Mini Mall until March, 1995 when it was destroyed by fire. DoLores was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, and later, Spirit of Life Roman Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Alter Society, served on the Golden Manor Nursing Home Board and the Kidder County Retirement Center Board. She also enjoyed time with friends playing bridge, bowling, and traveling. In 2007, Burton and DoLores purchased a condo in Mandan. Burton passed away July 16, 2012. On July 29, 2008 DoLores moved to Prairie Pointe Assisted Living in Bismarck. DoLores entered Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck on January 29, 2026. DoLores made many friends and received excellent care in both facilities. She was very grateful for the compassionate attention she received, and her family shares that sentiment as well.
DoLores is survived by her five children: Sharon Binek, Bismarck; Deborah (Jeff) Abbott, Dawson; Dale, Steele; Mary Ellen Dickson, Mandan; Kevin (Misty), Lindale, TX; five grandchildren: MaryJane (Scott) Nipstad; Sarah Abbott; Jennifer Lang (Dan Hogue); Tyler Johnson; Kaci Johnson; and two great grandchildren, Mason and Siera Nipstad.
DoLores will be welcomed into heaven by her husband, Burton; her parents Charles and Ella; her in-laws Otto and Miriam; two sisters-in law, Florence Deutscher and Miriam Pierce; two brothers-in-law, Bud Deutscher and Ross Pierce; her nephew, David Deutscher; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
The family requests memorials be given to: Prairie Pointe Assisted Living, 3330 Nebraska Drive, Bismarck, ND 58503; or Baptist Health and Rehab, 3400 Nebraska Drive, Bismarck, ND 58503.
