Doniene Hughes, age 93, of Bismarck, passed away May 1, 2026.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 PM, on Tuesday May 5, 2025, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.

A Private Burial will be held at a later date.

Doniene Hughes was born September 7, 1932, to Paul and Leah McCormick. She attended country schools and graduated in 1950 from St. Mary’s High School, being part of the last class to attend the original St. Mary’s school.

On June 4, 1957, she married Russell Hughes at St. Hildegard’s Church in Menoken. Together, they made their home in the McKenzie, Menoken, and Baldwin areas before settling in Bismarck in 1969.

Doniene dedicated 27 years of her life to working at Missouri Slope Lutheran Home. Her husband, Russell, passed away in 2007, and together they shared 56 years of marriage.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially crafts, sewing, working on picture puzzles, and caring for her plants. Doniene also had a special love for animals and always had a cat or dog by her side.

She is survived by her two children, Paul of Bismarck and Kathleen of Mandan; two granddaughters, Tracy Helm and Terrie Stroh; as well as seven great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Doniene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; and son-in-law.
