Dorothy Jean Kastner, 87, of Bismarck, passed away on September 24, 2026, at St. Alexius Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 30, at the Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2nd St, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:30 pm, with a rosary/vigil service beginning at 6:30 pm, Tuesday, September 29, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 3117 E Century Ave, Bismarck. 

Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Dorothy was born on August 13, 1939, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Dominic and Dorothy (Feist) Goetz. Her family moved to Sterling, North Dakota, when she was a young child. She attended grade school in Sterling and graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in 1958.

After graduation, Dorothy worked at St. Alexius as a scrub technician in the birth room nursery. She later cared for five children whose mother had died. Dorothy then attended Jack’s Hair Stylist College, graduating in December 1967. She owned and operated Beau Ideal Hair Fashions for ten years before retiring as a beautician in 1976.

On June 18, 1976, Dorothy married Gordon M. Kastner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck. They lived in Glen Ullin, North Dakota, for ten years, during which Dorothy worked at the nursing home. The couple returned to Bismarck in the mid-1980s. Dorothy lovingly cared for Gordon as he lived with a heart condition. He died on October 7, 2002.

Dorothy was a member of the Church of Corpus Christi. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, cooking, and, during her years in Glen Ullin, gardening and canning.

Dorothy is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jim Mitzel of Bismarck; her brothers, Dennis Goetz of Turtle Lake, Tony and Jane Goetz of Riverdale, Blaine and Kathy Goetz of Sterling, and Dominic and Verna Goetz of Sterling; her sister-in-law, Irene Goetz of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon; her sisters and brother-in-law, MaryAnn Schmaltz and Elaine and Al Dauenhauer; and her brother, Ray Goetz.
