Douglas Alan Kuns

December 6, 1938 — March 11, 2024

Douglas Alan Kuns, 85, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024.  There will be a graveside service with military honors on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Almont Cemetery, Almont, ND.

Douglas was born on December 6, 1938, in New Salem, ND, the son of Don and Lois (Templeton) Kuns. He spent his early years in the Almont area and graduated from Bismarck High school. Following graduation, he joined the United State Navy, serving aboard the USS ESSEX CVA-9 from 1958 until being honorably discharged in 1961.  He met and married Marilyn Galloway and they eventually settled in New Jersey, welcoming Jay and Katherine to their family. Doug and Marilyn later divorced. Doug worked for the New Jersey Transit system for 30 years until retiring.  In 1990, he met Judy McManigal and they moved to Bismarck, where they have since resided. While in Bismarck, Doug worked for the Bismarck Airport and also at Target.

Doug was very family oriented. He always had something planned when his kids visited, from going on the riverboat to going to the shooting range and showing off the unique places to see in North Dakota, making memories every step of the way. He also loved his little dogs he had throughout the years, most being Japanese Chins.

Red Sox Baseball was a huge part of Doug’s life. He enjoyed watching, whether visiting Fenway Park or catching games on TV, proudly wearing the red and blue to show his support.   The love of this team was passed onto his children.

Doug is survived by his children, Jay (Jeannie Considine) Kuns and Katherine (EJ Balcom) Kuns; significant other of 34 years, Judy McManigal; grandkids, Kristy Cortez and Erik Kuns and great-granddaughters, Kaylie and Jaymie Cortez. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sisters, Sharon (Hal) Pelton and Shirley (Russell) Davis.
