Dwayne Edward Frederick, age 65, of Aneta, ND, passed away on September 2, 2026, after a long battle with COPD.

He was born on August 31, 1961, in California to James and Marjorie(Rants) Frederick, while James was stationed at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base.

Dwayne graduated from Mandan High School in 1979. He was a Jack-of-all-trades working in a number of occupations including Red Fox/Dakota Farms in Mandan, Farmer's Union in Sterling, and Central Plains Ag in Aneta. He also volunteered for the Sterling Fire Department, at a time being the Fire Chief.

He married Vivian Blum in 1981. Together, they raised four children in Driscoll, ND. He and Vivian later divorced, remaining amicable through the years.

Dwayne loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and later grandchildren (no matter how many times he had to fix a snagged fishing line). Before his health deteriorated, Dwayne was known for keeping a large garden. He'd make the best pickles, salsa, and sauerkraut.

He was also an animal lover. He would come home with stray dogs, bottle lambs and calves, even baby squirrels he'd found while working for a tree service. Dwayne had newsworthy moments saving cats from burning homes and releasing Spike the snapping turtle back into the wild. In his later years, his ferrets would become his second set of children.

Dwayne always had a joke or a witty remark. He was known to some as "Rocket Man," while others knew him as "Doogie." He will be remembered by his sense of humor and one-liners.

Dwayne had a special relationship with his brother, Kenyon, who had been his roommate for the past several years. From brother to friend to unofficial caregiver; Dwayne's children are incredibly thankful that Kenyon was by his side when they could not always be.

He is survived by his four children Darren (Brooke) Frederick, Amber (Tony) Nelson, Amanda (Jared) Bichler, and Ashley (Matthew) Bahm; fifteen grandchildren Aysia (Ray) Foolbear, Kiara, Kitana, and Hunter Frederick, Jayden Papka, Landyn and Cooper Nelson, Hailey Bruce, Jameson, August, and Oliver Bichler, Spencer Frederick, Waverly, Charlie, and Emersyn Bahm; one great-grandchild Dallas Foolbear; siblings Doug Frederick, Brenda (Russ) Burley, Toni (Justin) Hohbein, and Kenyon Frederick; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Marjorie Frederick.

A memorial service will be held on September 8, 2026, at 12 p.m. with visitation starting at 10 a.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service. A luncheon and burial will follow.
