Eileen Gilbertson was born on Oct. 2, 1931 to Clarence and Carrie Gilbertson. She was raised in Mercer and later moved to Bismarck where she graduated from Bismarck High in 1949. Eileen married Adam A. Schaf in 1952. To this union, 10 children were born. Eileen worked beside Adam on the farm raising beef cattle, milking cows, and raising the children.

She was active with St. Peter’s Catholic Church. After most of the kids left the house, Eileen went to work at Thelma’s Clothing Store in Fort Yates. She also worked for Lloyd’s Supervalu as a cashier for many years. After her employment at Lloyd’s, Eileen worked at St. Bernard’s Mission School as a cook. She enjoyed the children while working there. After her retirement, the two moved to Lincoln where Eileen and Adam joined Church of the Ascension. Eileen volunteered many hours cooking for funerals at the church. After Adam’s death, Eileen volunteered at St. Alexius Hospital.

Eileen had a very giving heart. She always made sure that children in need received a gift on Easter or Christmas. Eileen was a woman with the biggest heart; she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally.

She is survived by her five sons, Jerry (Jackie), Minn., David, Mich., Jim (Carmen), Hettinger, Daniel (Tammy), Cassleton, and Robert (Jeanett), Center; three daughters, Carol Rosinski, Bismarck, Jane (Bob) Heida, Oreg., Nancy (Dale) Leingang, Solen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth; and brother, Elmer.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; her parents; sons, Philip and Glen; sister, Betty; and brother, Charles.
