Eileen Schneider, 85, Bismarck, was called home to God on May 6, 2026, at St. Garbriel’s Community in the presence of family.
Eileen was born June 30, 1940, in rural Hettinger County to Fred and Agatha Senn. She graduated from Mott High School in 1958 and went on to college at The State Teachers College in Minot (now Minot State University) where she graduated in 1962 with a double major in Elementary Education and Business Education. While there she was a member of the Delta Epsilon Phi Sorority. She also started working towards a master’s degree through the University of North Dakota.
She married Eugene “Duke” Schneider on June 24, 1961, at St. Placidus Catholic Church. Together they raised four children.
Eileen taught various elementary levels from 1961 until 1977 in Wyoming, Oregon, and North Dakota. From 1977 to 1980 she worked for the Black Hills Gold company in Bismarck. She also worked as a committee clerk for the Finance and Tax during two legislative sessions (1975, 1981). From 1982 until her retirement in 2002 she worked as an administrative assistant for what was then the North Dakota Department of Economic Development and Finance. After retirement Eileen worked as a volunteer at the North Dakota Heritage Center and was later employed at the North Dakota Historical Society.
Eileen was an excellent cook, a devoted friend, and a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed, spending time with family and friends shopping, bingo, and. She always had the best banana bread ready for the grandchildren. Her children will especially miss her brown-sugar kuchen.
She is survived by her children Lynne, Robert (Kathy), Debbie (Greg), and John (Stephanie); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters-in-law Roger (Bernice) and Fred (Diane), her brothers-in-law Kent and Paul, her sister-in-law Clara, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sisters Marleen and Shirley, brother Richard, sister-in-law Lila, and brothers-in-law Gordon and Nick.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 11, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., followed by a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 1905 South Third Street, Bismarck. Burial immediately following at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
