IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth "Betty"
Day
July 21, 1938 – November 24, 2025
Elizabeth “Betty” Remmick Day, 87, MOFFIT, went home to her lord and savior on November 24, 2025. She was welcomed into the open arms of her beloved husband, Rubin & daughter Melissa, who both passed away in 2002. Cremation has taken place.
Betty was born on July 21, 1938, to Sophie Remmick in Glen Ullin, ND, the youngest of Sophie’s five children joining older brothers Roger, Lester, Melvin, and Eugene.
After graduating from Glen Ullin High School, she attended Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri for one year. She moved back to Bismarck and worked for Woolworths and as a judges’ clerk. She welcomed her son David in April 1962 and was a single mom until she was set up on a blind date with Rubin Day…they married on Nov. 19, 1965, and they welcomed daughter Melissa in February 1967.
Betty was a small-town girl but never dreamed she would be a farm wife living in the middle of nowhere near Moffit, ND, but later cherished her role as the matriarch of the Day Ranch, originally settled by Rubin’s ancestors before North Dakota was entered into statehood. Those same pioneers were instrumental in forming and building the Glencoe church, in which we gather today!
After raising the kids, Betty had a 2nd career at the ND State Library helping usher in the era of computers that replaced the old card catalogs. She retired in July 2003. Any visitor to her home will recall the stacks of recycled library cards used for shopping lists, phone numbers, and keeping score for card games.
Betty took great pride in her yard, vegetable garden, numerous flower gardens, and even some grapes for making wine. When her tools needed a mechanic, David would find the full armada lined up in front of the shop doors where he couldn’t work on anything before fixing hers! This sparked many heated conversations between mother and son, especially during the busy planting or haying seasons.
Countless skeins of yarn found their way through Betty’s hands as she crocheted and knitted Afghans, pillow covers, and a cozy cover for every kitchen appliance imaginable, and don’t forget every single hanger in every closet. She created and donated countless hats, scarves, and slippers to area churches or shelters for the needy. She specialized in beanies for newborns and premature infants, and in creating prayer shawls for cancer patients.
As a faithful member of the Glencoe church, she became a lay preacher, serving the congregation whenever called upon. She was the Morton Township Tax Assessor for about 50 years and served on the Burleigh County Social Services Board.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David & Tracie Day and son-in-law George (Kelly) Crawley, and honorary son William Canada; grandchildren: Justin (Cassy) Fisher, Dusty (Kaylee) Day, Makayla (Anthony) Gonzalez, George (Kiamya) Crawley, Trevor (Lindee) Johnson, Alex Johnson, Cody (Angie) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Mary Anne Day and Wanda Hanson; many nieces and nephews; and her seven great grandchildren: Kinslee Day, George Crawley (the fifth), Mason and Micah Fisher, and Kylee, Logan, Jaina, Preslei, and Gavin Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rubin; daughter, Melissa; her mother; and all four brothers. After a life of 87 years, the list of many beloved relatives and dear friends who have passed far exceeds the space available here.
The family thanks the staff at Edgewood Lakewood and Caring Edge Hospice for the excellent care given to Betty during her last 4 months.
But we can’t forget Betty’s most often used phrase…
See you later, Alligator!
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, at Glencoe Church south of Bismarck on Highway 1804, with visitation beginning an hour prior to the service.
